Fish Protector

Fish-friendly mowing with the Fish Protector.

Herder B.V brings a new innovation to the market for ditch maintenance. The Gebr. Tolenaars and Herder B.V have agreed that the patent for the Fish Protector MK01 will be taken over by Herder B.V. With the Fish Protector a big step is made in the fish-friendly mowing of the waterways by using flashlights. Recent research has shown that fish mortality decreases significantly. Herder B.V will take over both production as well as the distribution of the Fish Protector.

Ecological water management

Maintenance of waterways is crucial for the disposal of excess (rain) water. Keeping the many types of waterways free, by mowing the ditches, is important to ensure a good water flow. Herder's mowing buckets, together with Conver's mowers, are the most commonly used tools to keep the waterways free of vegetation. The Fish Protector MK01 has been developed to prevent fish mortality by mowing the waterways.

During a mowing job, the survival of our flora and fauna is taken into account as much as possible. The Code of Conduct Code of Nature for Water Boards requires, among other things, that as many nature-friendly types of equipment are used, and protected species should be harmed as little as possible.

Fish-friendly mowing

With the Fish Protector MK01, you can mow the waterways fish-friendly by the use of four strobe lamps that give flashes. The flashes of light will alert fish and cause them to flee due to the scare reaction. This mostly prevents fish from ending up in the mowing basket, T-knife or mower and ending up on the shore.

The Fish Protector lamps are directly attached on the mowing basket, T-knife or mower. The lamps are small in size and are shock resistant and scratch-resistant. Depending on the water quality, the flashes reach up to 5 meters.

Through the use of the Fish Protector, an important contribution is made to the follow-up of the Code of Conduct Act Nature Protection for Water Boards. Above all, a contribution is made to nature and that is what we all want!

Independent tests (carried out by Fish Advice) show that the flashes of light provide a short reaction to the fish, which clearly reduces the amount of fish on the shore. Besides, it does not cause long-distance to expel of fish in the waterway. This means that the fish remain in their habitat.
